Our air conditioner broke down just as it was getting nice and hot. My neighbor finds out about it and tells me how things break down just when you need them. I’m like, duh, if you didn’t need something, you wouldn’t be using it, so you wouldn’t know if it was working or not. That’s like losing your glasses and telling people you found them, and then they say how it’s always the last place you look. Well, duh, again. Who is going to keep looking after you found it? Anyway, I called for HVAC repair in NYC. I figured that being an especially hot day that it would be some time before anyone would stop by. They had a technician close by who would stop by within the hour. I was impressed so far.
The guy showed up and saw that the AC blower was running, but the air coming out was only the slightest bit cool. He knew what the problem was. He shut it off and looked outside. The unit on the outside of the house had very dirty coils. There were some leaves and other debris inside too. He cleaned it out, and then he used an acid solution on the coils. It was fizzing for a couple of minutes, and then he rinsed it really good with water from our garden hose. The outside unit lets the heat absorbed by the system go into the air outside. When the coils are dirty, the heat does not exchange well.
It worked. When he turned it back on it was just as cold as it was when it was brand new. It just goes to show you that you need to do regular maintenance on things that you do not think require any maintenance. We will be sure to call him next spring to get us ready to go before it gets hot.
Izzie and I went to look at the showroom of this place called Glass Plus, we have been shopping around looking at different types of shower doors in Union county NJ. I honestly never thought much about this topic, but apparently it is a big deal to Izzie. She has seen this one type of shower door some place and she really wants one. They have one at this place, but naturally it is the most expensive one they have as well. I am not really sure how hard it is to install one, but this one is pretty heavy. I looked at some videos on youtube and I see how the guys who know what they are doing would do this. It looks like you need two guys to hold the thing in the right place and they use these big suction cup things with handles on them. They are made out of rubber and they have this little button you used to vacuum pump the air out of the seal.
It looks like at a minimum you need two reasonably strong guys who can hold the thing and place. Ideally there would be a third guy who would set the pins in place. I am not sure you call them pins or whatever. At any rate the thing is this is a really expensive shower door and the big fear would be if you tried to put it in your self, but you messed it up. In fact this could end up being a medical emergency if you did not have the right guy helping you or you managed to drop this thing on you. It is not likely that you could die or anything, but you could definitely get in a lot of blood if you broke it.
I think that going out to have a good time should be done as safely as possible. I never have had a desire to consume alcohol, but I know a lot of people who are social drinkers. I also know that some of them will drive home after going out on a party night with friends. I am part of a club of pilots of radio-controlled aircraft. We like to get together for dinner and an evening of conversation and stuff like that. I decided to rent a Platinum party bus in Toronto for our last formal event. I knew that alcohol would be served that evening, and that there would be more than one person who should not get behind the wheel to drive home.
The event was more than just an informal gathering. We were having guests who design the newest aircraft, engines, servos and radio-control transmitters. The dinner was at a more upscale place too. Most of us had never been to it. That means people would be driving in an unfamiliar area of the city. I just thought it best that we were all driven to the dinner and back home. The Platinum party bus in Toronto was not so big that it could not get us all back home to the places where we live in the suburbs. The driver was very professional and patient.
As expected, the dinner did have a couple of guests that were part of my crowd that drank may be one or two too many. No one got sloppy drunk, but the red eyes and the odor of alcohol made it clear to me that they should not drive. I am a teetotaler, but I was very sleepy after the long day and evening. There was no way I should have been driving either. Sleepy driving can be just as bad as drunk driving. I am glad we rented the party bus and so were all of my friends. One less thing to worry about.
